Sphenopalatine Ganglion (SPG) Blocks
A viscous lidocaine is “dripped” into the nose (with the patient lying on there back) to block the SPG and trigeminal nerve in the posterior nasopharynx (AKA back of the throat) to provide acute and preventative headache relief. This is an excellent option for patients who want to avoid needles/injections and is considered an exceedingly safe procedure with no downtime. This is typically done as a series (e.g., twice weekly for 3-6 weeks).
