Phoenix Rising
The above image is a contemporary depiction of the ancient “Firebird” from Greek (Phoibos Apollo) and Egyptian (sun god Ra) mythology. More commonly known as the “Phoenix”, the bird symbolizes resurrection and immortality. Per mythology, the bird is the size of a large eagle, gives out a melodious cry, has beautiful scarlet feathers and a golden tail. Both the female (huang) and male (feng) creatures live for five-hundred years but have the supernatural power to come back to life and regenerate in repetitive cycles for eternity. The mythical bird becomes anew as it rises from the flames and ashes from its previous self. Analogous examples in the literature include the city of Rome (which was rebuilt repeatedly on the grounds of its previous ashes) and the purple crocus flower which is a sign of Spring and rebirth. The brilliant purple seen in this flower is depicted in the above image, has become the color of “migraine awareness” and is carried out throughout the PHI clinic as a meaningful accent color. The phoenix and the Phoenix Headache Institute have become synonymous with resilience and a renaissance of spirit especially after extended periods of physical and/or emotional hardship.
Darling, you’re not falling apart. You’re getting rid of the pieces that no longer serve your purpose, this is a surgery of the spirit, and it can be painful as hell.
